Video Search Engine Optimization Tips and Techniques

Detailed list of important tips/guidelines for video search engine optimization

People usually love video, millions of Americans consume videos online and same is the case world over. A consumer is most likely to keep in mind and refer to a video in comparison to a print advertisement. These days video making is very economical as compared to the cost of a traditional commercial. Broadband is getting enormous popularity worldwide. Now people can watch videos without long download times or quality issues. Present generation considers video to be a reliable source of news and information. Online video for them is second to nature.

Here are a few tips/hints for optimizing your video:

It is recommended that you create and submit a transcript for users and the search engines, add a transcript to each video file you’ve uploaded via your Video Status page. Create a Keyword Rich Title for your Transcript; include a brief introductory paragraph/synopsis that describes the subject matter of your transcript (and video) and be sure to publish your transcript.

Don’t forget to encode the keywords you are targeting into your video. Try to use the word “video” as much as possible, make sure the word “video” is used in your title, description, meta data etc.

Search engine crawlers rely a lot on the link texts to figure out what the video is all about as they are not capable to figure out the contents of the video otherwise. Therefore it is advisable to get as many back links as possible for your video.

It is advisable to create a separate sitemap just for your videos in your site and try to keep your video files in one directory this would help the web crawlers to locate your video files speedily and effortlessly.

It is very difficult for the web crawlers of any search engine to crawl into the video contents inside flash players so they usually prefer to stay away from such files. It is therefore advisable not to use such kind of file formats which discourages the web crawlers.

It is advisable to optimize the URLs of your video pages for the search engines with the help of mod_rewrite function so that the pages are freely assessable by the search engines.

Various video search engines use to capture thumbnails of your in different manner. Some of them take the first frame of your video, while others try to take from the middle or end. It is better to experiment with each site individually to make sure they are displaying the right thumbnail for your video. A video thumbnail is always crucial when it comes to decide for a viewer which video to watch.

Beside the above mentioned points there are few more points relevant for the optimization:

Always make sure viewers are searching for your targeted keywords regularly. If not, try to find the closest related keywords being searched.

Viewers who offer feedback are most likely to take the desired action on your video. This could be a good opportunity for you to submit fresh contents, if the most popular videos were included months ago, it really helps. For more detailed tips on video seo, visit ReelSEO.com

Making Your Video Go Viral On The Internet http://stacykinney.com/making-your-video-go-viral-on-the-internet/ http://stacykinney.com/making-your-video-go-viral-on-the-internet/#comments Tue, 09 Nov 2010 11:05:22 +0000 Mark Walters http://stacykinney.com/?p=1622

A term only coined relatively recently in marketing terms, viral marketing is the act of business promotion using social networks such as Facebook or YouTube. A successful viral marketing campaign will result in millions of viewers hits on your video, massively increasing your company’s exposure to potential customers.

Though viral marketing is relatively cheap and can be quite effective, it is not that easy to achieve. However, the tips explained below should help you…

The predominant factor that must be adhered to is that your video must be entertaining. The video must be informative, controversial, remarkable or just plain funny. You must cause the audience to want to show their friends or co-workers the video, thus starting the chain.

Money is not important. You do not need an expensive set with big Hollywood actors; you just need a camera, an idea and a few takes.

Even though YouTube will allow you to upload videos of up to ten minutes and one hundred megabytes; a long video will only put people off, depending on the content. Try to limit your video to between thirty seconds and two minutes.

A detailed and precise description will go a long way to increasing your videos exposure in the event of a user search. Making sure the correct keywords are used relating to your video will mean that viewers are more likely to watch it.

Users can easily tell if a video is just a marketing exercise and if you make a video that attempts to deceive the audience into thinking that the video was consumer generated, and you fail, you will have the reverse of the intended outcome to which you sought after; meaning you will possibly gain negative feedback.

One popular way that companies have pushed their way into viral marketing is by creating a series of linked videos, thus enticing previous viewers back and then, ideally, giving them more reason to send the link on.

Probably just as important as making a good video is actually telling people about it. There is no use in making a great video if nobody sees it. Add links to the video from your websites homepage, or other pages, incorporate the link into your email signature and send internal memos to employees notifying them of the existence of the video. You must start the ball rolling yourself, but once it does, it will be a steep slope down!

Video Marketing – Making the Most of Your YouTube Channel http://stacykinney.com/video-marketing-making-the-most-of-your-youtube-channel/ http://stacykinney.com/video-marketing-making-the-most-of-your-youtube-channel/#comments Mon, 21 Dec 2009 22:01:04 +0000 stacykinney http://stacykinney.com/?p=259

Video Marketing Begins with YouTube

In previous articles, we talked about how video marketing is an effective way to reach customers and even showed you the five steps to producing an awesome video. In this article, I am going to show you how best to optimize your YouTube channel so that it maximizes your video marketing efforts on this video sharing network.

Tips for Video Marketing on YouTube

Customize Your Video Marketing Channel

As the number one video sharing site on the internet, you are competing with over 3 million YouTube channels that are also dishing out content in an attempt to hook subscribers. Therefore, it is essential that you differentiate yourself when it comes to marketing on YouTube and the first place you begin is with your channel.
Video Marketing on YouTube
Do what you can to skin your YouTube channel so that it matches your brand. In addition to writing an irresistible description, create a video that welcomes viewers and make sure it is the first video they see when they pull up your YouTube site. Having a steady stream of subscribers is important to your video marketing efforts so give people a good reason to subscribe.

Upload Multiple Videos

Video is unique in that it can really only engage viewers one time. Meaning, your viewers are only willing to watch that cute puppy video once before they move onto something else. To be successful with your YouTube marketing efforts, you will need to upload more than one video.

Think of it as having your own television show. Each video you post enhances the impression your viewers have of you and encourages them to continue to visit your channel for updates. So before breaking out the camera, make sure you brainstorm enough material to make several videos for your video marketing campaign that will leave visitors wanting more.

Optimize Your Videos for Search

Over 3 billion searches are conducted on YouTube every month making it the second most popular search engine next to Google. Since Google often includes video from YouTube in its search results, optimizing your videos for YouTube searches gives you a chance to earn bonus video marketing traffic through the search engine giant.

Because search engines are not capable of seeing what is on the video, they depend on the text surrounding the video to tell it how relevant it is to what the viewer is searching for. Therefore your keyword needs to show up in the title of the video, the description and the YouTube tags to maximize your video’s chances of being seen by your target audience.

Include Links to Your Websites

Over 107 million visitors go to YouTube each month and watch approximately 65 hours worth of videos apiece. However, this statistic is meaningless if your video goes viral but you don’t have the necessary tools in place to generate sales or produce a stream of high quality prospects.

Therefore, be sure that when you are creating your videos that you include a link to your website or sales page in the video. For example, in many of my shopping videos, I link to my SaveWithStacy.com page that takes people to my online shopping mall where they can put the information I just gave them to good use.

Video marketing is just one of many tactics I use to increase sales and generate a list of qualified prospects for my home based business. 5 Steps to Producing an Awesome Video Tutorial http://stacykinney.com/5-steps-to-producing-an-awesome-video-tutorial/ http://stacykinney.com/5-steps-to-producing-an-awesome-video-tutorial/#comments Mon, 19 Oct 2009 13:51:36 +0000 stacykinney http://stacykinney.com/?p=82

A Video Tutorial Will Sell Your Expertise

Video marketing has quickly become a fun and effective way to promote your business. With so many people turning to the internet to learn a skill, producing a video tutorial is a great way to demonstrate your expertise as well as generate an influx of prospects hungry for what you have to sell.
A video tutorial is a video that teaches people how to complete a task. The best way to show people that you are an expert is to teach another person how to do what you do. For example, if you are a social media marketer, you could produce a video tutorial showing people how to use a popular social networking website.

How to Produce a Video Tutorial

To produce your video tutorial, you’ll need equipment appropriate to the type of tutorial you want to make. If you are creating a video on how to do something using a computer program or website, you can use screen recording software such as CamStudio or Camstasia to record your computer monitor. For non computer related video, such as showing someone how to cook a meal, you’ll need the appropriate camera equipment.

You’ll also need a video editing program, like Roxio, to clean up your footage as well as a microphone to record audio.

Step One – Decide on a Topic for Your Video Tutorial

Perhaps the easiest step is choosing a topic for your video tutorial. You’ll want to pick something of interest to your target market. To maximize the number of views you get, you’ll want to pick a topic that is in demand but where there is a lack of material on the subject.

Make a Video Tutorial

Step Two – Write a Script

In order to produce a good video tutorial, you’ll need to make sure the lesson you are teaching gives the viewer a thorough understanding of the process.

Start by writing down all the steps involved in the tutorial. Keep in mind the skill level of your audience. Beginners will need to have technical terms explained to them whereas you can skip such explanations if you are teaching advanced techniques to experts. When you are done, write an introduction and an ending.

To sound as natural as possible, use the script more as a guideline rather than memorize it.

Step Three – Do a Dry Run

Go through the video tutorial as though you were recording it but don’t actually turn on your equipment. You do your job all the time and it’s easy to skip over things that seem obvious to you but may be unclear to your viewer. Update your script with anything you may have missed.

Do as many dry runs as you need to feel comfortable making the video tutorial.

Step Four – Produce the Video

With your script in hand, do a recording of the video tutorial then go back and view it. Make note of things that need to be polished especially the use of stumbling words such as “Umm” and “Ahh.” Not only do they sound unprofessional, your viewer is concentrating hard to follow what you are saying and stumbling words will distract them. You may need to do the video a couple of times before it comes out the way you want it.

As a side note, don’t worry if the audio portion of the video tutorial trips you up. You can rerecord the audio portion later.

Step Five – Edit Your Footage

Go back and edit your footage to remove the parts of the video tutorial where you are waiting for the computer to process your commands. If the audio didn’t work out to your satisfaction but the video looks good, go ahead and rerecord the audio portion only and overlay onto the video.

After you have finished editing your video, upload it to the internet and wait for feedback. Producing a video tutorial does involve a lot of work but it is well worth the effort when you have a cadre of videos selling for you even when you are busy having fun on the beach.

Why Video Marketing is an Effective Way to Reach Your Customers http://stacykinney.com/video-marketing-an-effective-way-to-reach-customers/ http://stacykinney.com/video-marketing-an-effective-way-to-reach-customers/#comments Tue, 13 Oct 2009 19:25:50 +0000 stacykinney http://stacykinney.com/?p=50

Video Marketing Can Get Results

Are you looking for a way to generate business and get your name on customer’s lips? One often overlooked but effective way of creating buzz about your company is through the use of video marketing.

Video has been used to promote products and services, share ideas and disseminate information since the television became commercially available in 1946. The internet has simply moved the viewing screen from the television set to the computer monitor. Smart marketers have built successful businesses just by creating and uploading useful videos to popular sites, like YouTube and Metacafe, for users to view and share.

Video Marketing is an Effective Way to Reach Customers

For one thing, people have been conditioned by the television and many prefer to watch a show on a subject rather than read an article about it. As long as you provide a compelling reason to watch, people will sit through your entire presentation with nary a complaint.

Video marketing offers your customers an opportunity to meet you before they buy. Instead of relying on a static picture and a few words on a blog, your prospects get to see and hear you which go a long way towards building trust in you and your company.

Video Marketing Camera Upload

Oftentimes, ideas and information can be communicated quicker and easier with a two minute video versus a two page blog post. If you are selling a product, video presents customers with an opportunity to try it before they buy it. And if you are selling a service, you can demonstrate your skills to your potential clients to convince them you are the right person for the job.

Best of all, videos are portable. With the technological advances made in cell phones, your customers can view your content anywhere they happen to be in the world and easily share it with members of their network. Strike the right chord in your viewers and the number of people who see your video can easily reach into the hundreds of thousands.

Video Marketing Requires Compelling Content to Work

The first rule of thumb when engaging in video marketing is to produce compelling content. Unfortunately, people have also been conditioned to click away if what’s on the screen does not interest them. Just like you must hook your reader in the first paragraph, you have about ten seconds to capture the attention of your audience or they’ll walk away.

Many first time video marketers think that a video is a great way for them to tell their customers about their business. This is wrong. As harsh as this may sound, your customers don’t really care about you (at least not at first) but rather how you can help them. The second rule of thumb is to focus on answering the question, “How does this help me?” from the viewpoint of your audience. This will help you produce content that gets viewed and shared.

Getting started with video marketing may seem intimidating at first, but there are many resources on the internet that will help you get off to a great start. So grab a video camera and start making videos today.
